Discussion: NSA (52/275) and ASA (52/300) Ball Review

Have had two leagues switch to the new NX3 ball and nothing but good news about the ball. Our league tried them in fall ball and recorded games played. We actually used one ball for 12 games and it still hit good, nothing but good reviews on the NX3. TATTOO HAS A WINNER IN THE NX3!!!!

Discussion: Miken U2 Black Maxload

Gorilla Boy,

I returned a Miken Ultra Black Balanced to Miken on Monday for review and warranty with the exact same symptoms as Perl is talking about, rattle in the handle and poor performance although it had very few swings on it and not even a mark on the barrel but sounded bad hitting and just dropping to ground. Grabbing the barrel and tapping the handle to rug was really bad. Just FYI, I have an RA# if needed.

Thanks,

Budda12
You need to talk to the Salesperson or rep that you bought from, I have had several end caps break and all have been replaced with a new bat. Also all have been balanced bats and none of the endloads.

Discussion: face masks

As a pitcher I was against the mask at first and then when it was mandated I changed my mind and am totally for it. I use it in local league and it has saved me several times, not from the line drive but from balls that have hit the pitchers rubber and take the unpredictable bad hops. I sure I would have had a broken jaw on several of the impacts off the mask. IF IT IS ALL ABOUT SAFETY GET RID OF THE PITCHING RUBBER AND USE A LINE, NOBODY USES THE RUBBER ANYWAY AND MOST ARE STICKING UP, BROKEN IN PLACES OR HAVE BEEN DAMAGED FROM DRAGGING.

BAND THE RUBBER!!!!!!

Put over 200 swings on a 27oz balanced Saturday and it was really opening up after the first 100. I will have this bat in Montgomery for demo this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

One addition to last post we did not get to hit in very hot weather but my assumption is that heat has very little affect on them!!!

Discussion: New ADStarr ball

Tried a dozen of these balls for our fall league 44/375 and have been very impressed with quality and durability of the balls. They do make a very nice crack off the bat and are consistent with distance whether new or after several games. We used several for 10 games and can't tell any difference in performance and they do clean very easily. Only negative is that the stamping/lettering on the ball disappears in a couple of innings, since you can easily tell the difference between composite/leather/synthetic balls will probably be no problem in league where the league buys and provides all the balls, but could the stamping durability be improved? Also this ball will solve any issue with BP balls being old, worn out, out of round or water logged, they just stay the same. Thanks, Kevin

Discussion: Bat weights

End loaded means just that, not that it should weigh more, a 27 is a 27 whether balanced or endloaded, it's just where the weight is at. I have never weighed a Miken that was not over weight and many 1 to 2 ounces over and as high as 3.
I have an original with ASA stamp and it was a 27oz that weighs 29.7ozs.

Discussion: Passing of Wayne Henck

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Wayne Henck of the Huffman Electric Team and wore uniform Number 1. Wayne was an 8 year survivor of liver transplant and a friend to all. He will be greatly missed by all his many friends and family. Prayers of comfort to his family, his wife Vicki and friends. Visitation will be on Saturday, Sept. 19th at Crowell Brothers funeral home at 5051 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. Peachtree Corners. Visitation is from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. The funeral will be 2pm on Monday, Sept. 21st at Dunwoody United Methodist Church on Mt Vernon Hwy. Dunwoody, Ga. Visitation will also from 1-2pm before the service.
Till we meet again my brother as teammates on the other side.

Discussion: 1st or second at Southern in Birmingham

While other associations would have rewarded both Teams with first place awards especially since the game was played under championship rules and both teams were awarded 1st place for TOC, I don't understand why one 1st place team gets different awards than another 1st place. I guess SSUSA was saving a couple of dollars on awards that are mostly supported by their sponsors. How can you justify one team in 70 Major eligible for rings and not the 65AAA team that was champion but received second place awards, very poor for a TOC qualifier.

Discussion: 1st or second at Southern in Birmingham

Thanks for the great input, their was more involved that I didn't mention, This was the 3 A championship game with the winner receiving the TOC bid. After excepting the call they scored 4 more runs that ending but we pulled out the win.
Another problem arises, the tournament included four 65 3 A's & one 70 major undefeated team. We all 3 agreed who ever won the game would forfeit the final game with the major team since both teams would win their age group and bid to the TOC. We were told by the director that the game had to be played or forfeit the 3 A championship. We discussed why risk injury on a game that doesn't count in the standings. We play the game and was beat by several runs due to awesome hitting & they enjoyed having the extra man in the field. As the awards were being handed out the 70 Major received SSUSA Polo shirts & we received SSUSA hats for winning the 3 A championship. Unbelievable

Discussion: Prayers for Wayne Henck and family

Many of you know Wayne and many don't, but Wayne is an 8 year liver transplant survivor and a retired Atlanta detective. Wayne has developed abscesses on his liver and went through a very rough period this month. The liver problems have taken a toll on his heart and he is not strong enough to have another Liver transplant and now Doctors have told him that there is nothing more that they can do for him except try to keep him comfortable. He will be moved from Emory Hospital in Atlanta into a palliative care facility with Hospice. Wayne has many friends and has played with many ball teams and everybody is a friend to Wayne. I have had the pleasure of playing with him on Huffman Electric and several other teams and wish him and his family peace and comfort during these trying times. He has a website setup on caringbridge.org where you may visit for updates and tributes for Wayne. He will always be on the Lord's All-American Team and in the lineup everyday.
Please remember to pray for his comfort in this trying time.

Discussion: ratings

Totally agree but what's even worse is a team that won Vegas last year as a Major team and now playing up one age group with 5 or more players from that team is still playing Major. Only certain teams get correct rating but until it is corrected SSUSA will continue to have Teams not playing in tournaments. Lost $$$ but they don't even care as long as Director gets his way.

Discussion: Religious ceremonies at tournaments

We usually pray both before our games as a team and after the games with both teams on the mound. I feel that the mound sessions creates a unique bonding session for both teams as we submit our prayer list and concerns for family, friends and loved ones along with all those who served in the Armed Forces. It also gives the opportunity to offer praises in those case where prayers have been answered. Recently we offered praise for a teammate who celebrated 8 years of success for a liver transplant and now he is battling an unknown infection and with GOD's will he can continue to be an active member of the TEAM.
AMEN!!!!!

Discussion: Unloader Knee Brace

I've been wearing one since 2005, when I was told I needed knee replacement. Along with the Ortho-Visc shots I'm still going on the knee. Have worn out 3 DonJoys and currently using a Bledsloe. Like the Bledsloe much better than the DonJoys. Just takes some getting used to running but much better than a knee replacement. Never have pain when wearing the brace, have even started wearing it for golf. Make sure you get a good fit, I had one that took a lot of adjusting and it never did as good as the others. I would have had many knee injuries without it or just one career ending.
