Discussion: Runner on first base

Correct me if I am wrong, but...
If a runner is hit by a ball while on first base, it is a live ball.. period
The runner is forced to go to second base unless a defensive player grabs the ball and touches first base before he touches the runner. (then the runner has the option of going back to first base or going to second all with the possibility of getting tagged out.

I'll leave that opinion to others
I just know I am just crazy enough (or dumb enough) to try and catch the bullets up the middle.
Been pitching since 1978 and still love the action.

Hey
In our league it is a foul ball, if it is the 3rd strike, you are out.
That's what I was using to make the call

PS
Did anyone know that NSA senior ball has gone to using nets in tournaments?
League ball is OK, but not in tournaments.
I hope SSUSA NEVER does that.
I am a pitcher and it takes a lot from the game (IMO)

The umpire should have called "infield fly IF fair"
once it hits the net, is was a foul ball and NOT an infield fly.
It isn't right, but the net is a foul, dead ball.

Don't feel too bad.
We travel a min of 5 hours to EVERY tournament will play in.
Most are between 6-7 hrs.
We do what we have to do to play this great game.

I have one in my demarini bag.
I love it
It does make the bag a little heavier, but to me it is well worth it.

Discussion: SSUSA thank you

Staff
I know Vegas is a huge tournament, but why make it 4 days?
Will it be?
2 RR games on Thursday?
Then start 3 GG on Friday? (which means lots of teams will be gone on Friday?)
This means everyone will have to be there on Wed
If it trying to get people to stay more nights, I don't think it will help.
Most people will just leave on Sunday night now instead of leaving on Monday

Texas
Tulsa and rogers are both 8 hrs or so..lol
And about being patient, my hopes are not good. Last year there wasn't anything close but B'ham.

Anyway, I will be watching.

We might go to the DFW championships. Flights to Dallas aren't too bad.

Discussion: For SSUSA staff about tournaments

Hey Staff,
I see where you changed the Birmingham (4hrs away) tournament to Raleigh , NC.
(12 hrs from Memphis)
Will there be ANY tournaments close to the Memphis, TN area
Florida, GA, AL , Miss?
The teams around here have to travel a min of 6-8 hours to play SSUSA.
Any new sites in this area that you know about?
Thanks in advance
Brett

Discussion: change tie breakers.. lets hear your thoughts

I think the tie breaker format needs to be changed.
The first tie breaker should be run differential, not runs allowed.
I teams that goes 1-1 with scores of 29-28 and 25-28 (54 runs given up) would be lower than a team that goes 1-1 with scores 15-1 and 9-10 (24 runs given up)
I think the team that lost by 1 and won by 3 should have the higher seed.
The other team lost by 14 and won by 1.
This would be an easy change next year if the players want it.
It should be how close the games are, not how many runs you give up.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks
Brett

Lonz00, that's a good point
Here is another idea
Just play a true 3 game wrap around tournament (3 game guarantee)
Lower the entry fees and make ALL the games count

Discussion: Bad experience for a Class Tournament - Worlds

The main thing here is to have TWO umpires on all games in the BIGGEST tournament of the year.
There were MANY calls that were wrong because there was only one umpire.(in our games and many others)
In this case, at least one umpire would have seen the runner slide across the plate
Maybe in the RR games, one umpire is ok, but NEVER in brackets games.
Sat games are just as important as Sunday games (where we have 2 umps)
I asked the director why and his answer was "its a financial decision"
My answer to that was "Don't make so much money, put it back into the game"
I watched the play at home where he slid in, he should have been called out, PERIOD.
IMO, I think that's a crazy rule, if you slide, so what, you are not sliding into anybody so why make it illegal? Make the game fun again.
just my 2 cents worth.

Discussion: effect of interference call by umpire

BJ
If senior softball has changed the rule, the umpires don't know it has been changed. (SSUSA)
It happened to us in Birmingham this year and we were told no throw, no interference.

And for a judgment call for the player going home (I forgot it isn't a tag play,) the runner from first would have to come across the bag at 2nd to interfere.. I guess it could happen, but if it did, that would be a easy call.. I still say there must be a throw. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info.
