Tim/Nancy, "Thanks for a great weekend, Dayton Legends had a great time, could have used better weather but still not bad. The only problem that I saw was again the use of the MAT, please throw away the mat, it's tough enough as is, let alone throwing at the MAT. We don't use the MAT anywhere else but Indy, so think about getting rid of the MAT for next year. Hey Guys, what did you think about the BUCKEYE BUS. We'll taking it up to that place of "NORTH" as Woody would say. So it should be a good time taking some serious hazing from the Wolverines. Other then that, Nancy good job, love ya. Danny

I am really glad that you guys came over. We played the older Dayton Legends team this weekend. Unfortunately Midwest is having a little trouble with their youth fastpitch tournament; so they still have the results on their to-do list. Anyone from Dayton coming for the USSSA C NIT? I guess that I am going to have to compare tournament schedules with you because everywhere we go uses the mat including our leagues; so we are real used to it. I loved the bus, and you know that includes the license plate and the driver. Hope to catch up with you soon, Danny. Thanks again.

I find the comment about the mat interesting. I have been in senior softball for 4 years, playing all over the mid-west and many nationals and the mat has always been used??? Without a mat, I have found every ump has a different opinion of the strike zone. If it hits the mat it is a strike. If I would get rid of anything, it would be the plate as a strike. However, I think the walks would increase and we would never get a 7 inning game in an hour. Keep the mat.

Okay, keep the Mat, but at least widen it, remember the strike zone is where the ball crosses the plate not where it lands. The Mat is too narrown for corners. Pitchers can't pitch the corners because the Mat istoo narrow. Just widen the Mat a little so that Pitchers can pitch "Corners". Besides, I don't want to travel all over the country just to want, this game is really simple, see the ball hit the ball. If you are so worried about walking, stay home with the Mrs. and walk with her around the block. This game is played underhand. "Go to HIT"

I agree legends... I have umpired seniors here in Florida as well as several National Tournaments and wouldnt mind seeing the mat widened some. Could make it more interesting for the pitcher as well as make the batters swing more. Cut down on the walks and make it back to a hitters game. Good point.

We did play some games in Arizona that used a wider mat, but I still believe that good pitchers can adjust to almost anything. I always tell people that the plate and mat are just a rectangle target like they use in Canada. It is just that the plate makes it convenient to add a mat to in order to make that rectangle target. I have heard lots of umpires say that they wish that we would go to this in all play to take the subjective strike zone out of the picture after doing seniors games. It sure reduces the arguments from the players.

Great weekend, had fun. I was surprised the field conditions were as good as they were, considering all the rain we had.
A couple things: Don't charge admission for cars! WE,all of us, paid for tourney fees, gas to get there, t-shirts, concessions...come on!
That time limit of 47 minutes by the time the first pitch was thrown. There is no way an entire 7 innings can get played. it is nothing but hurry, hurry, hurry! We get 1hr. 10 minutes every where you regularly play.
Allow AA/AAA to at least have 1-3 home runs. After that a double or single would be fine.
Thanks for all the efforts of the Indy Committee to make this event happen!!!

Legends-Sorry but umps don't call where the ball crosses the plate. Whenever I have questioned a call, they always point to the holeleft where the ball hit the ground. Also, with the mat the same size as the plate in width, it forces the pitcher to throw it in there and thus it is a hitters game especially when combined with a 1-1 count. Having the plate and mat as a strike is a tremendous pitchers advantage vs. a rotational hitter which most are. It he is up in the box, pitch deep and if he is deep pitch the front of the plate. Vs. a linear hitter keep it deep and take him out of his rythum. I thought everyone knew that? If a pitcher can't keep a team a little off balance at the plate, maybe the walk with the wife would be a good idea. How much more of an advantage do you want the pitcher to have? I just don't get what you are trying to say.
