The Tornado's played in Boerne, and the competition in the 60's AAA bracket was top notch. Congrualations goes out to the AC Legends who won the 60's AAA championship the hard way, they earned it. The scheduling could have been better, and the equalizer rule should have been called out on the schedule. We enjoyed playing in the Boerne Qualifier and we will be back.

capt. kirk you must have not had to play 5 games on the first day 3 of them in a row. in the heat. plus some teams had to play 6 games the first day. was suposed to be 3 games first day then the rest on sat. thats what the flier read. but why have rules.
we may have lost two players for the year with injuries, that 5th game killed us.i really feal for the ones that had to play 6 games on the first day.

we came for a two day tournament win or lose ( lose we did) we were eliminated the first day 0 - 5. we have a team that just likes to play win or lose but thus tournament was a big disappointment, that our part was over the first day.

LP, the Boerne Tournament should be held in softball complex with a minimum
of four (4)fields, like Alva Jo Fisher or Kennedy in San Antonio. The Boerne Tournament has outgrown their softball complex. We rent the Alva Jo Fisher softball complex for our League Fund Raiser Tournament in August, the cost of fields are $205/field, bit on the expensive side.

we played 5 on Firday and 4 more Saturday, 60 didn't finish till 10PM Friday and 50's finished at 11PM Saturday, with some teams havin a 7 hour wait to play bracket games, Last games sunday didn't finish till after 6PM, late for teams from El Paso and Houston. Going to Thursday start next year(rumor) will cause a lot team not to come in 60 division, lot of our guys still work. played 15 games this weekend and had a lot of fun, 99% of the players are super to be around, but it was a long three days.

#6, I tried to respond but had to get the home office to reset me. As for Boerne, well, what can you say about a bad tournament. 50AAA playing a 40's team(twice) and them using Ultra 2's. Lucky to beat them in the pool game, but they showed up with some different faces later. Losers bracket due to playing a 40's team. They could/should have been with the been placed with those Major/Major Plus teams. Not enough fields, especially with one not having lights, too many teams for that small a complex and , enough about that. Boerne is not on our list for any other year. As for those teams playing so many games in one day, that, to copy a famous General, "NUTS. Hope to see most of you at other local tournaments especially mine on Oct. 9th at Kipper Mease, Pasadena. Good luck to all for those going to Phoenix.

Hate to bused your bubble Free-Agent 10 but we had the same 13 guys both days, you didn't have a problem when you were up 20-9(counting the five we give you) going into the open inning. We were the 8th seed and your guys were #1. We had one homer in our game.

#6 yep walk into tention Sat. that was thicker than Texas Heat !! Two many game's for our age in one day, no concern's about our health. The down time was just not right, too many teams standing around. We all know what happens to the body when you have to wait several hours, not good at all. My 50 team got to the fields at 7:00am Sat. for a 7:35 check in 1st game at 8:00 fourth game at 10:00 pm finishing the game at 11:20 pm now we love ball just like the next guy but 16 hours on one day, then had to come back Sunday to start at 8:00 am to find out that we had another delay, this relly really took alot of fun out of this guys. We came home with four Dawgs out for a while, and felt like we paid to be abused this past weekend.

Wasn't my bubble you guys almost busted. Maybe you should talk to your team, since it was them that told me they couldn't make the earlier game. Now, you guys are 40 y/o team, using Ultra 2's. Why should we play a 40 y/o team period? Pool game is fine, but not in the elimination round. Yes, we were up on that field with the soft infield, but when we changed to the rock hard infield, your balls were taking off as I am sure my third baseman can attest to. If that is sour grapes, so be it, but we didn't pay to play a 40 y/o team. Its bad enough, we have to play against Major/ Major Plus teams at times.
Larry, I had problems getting on the board and headquarters had to change my name to get me back on. Its still me. Be happy you missed this one.
#6, I have sent out info on that one but will again. Should be a good one for practice for Phoenix.
PS JBT. We didn't care about home runs. Thats for the big dogs. It was those rockets your team hit with ultra 2's that bother us. Home runs don't hurt anyone, but that line drive that I caught at my face would have. I guess thats sour grapes also.

your right capt. kirk there is a need for a four field complex for this tournament, but not at alva jo those fields are to small for the big boys.

The 40's team in the Boerne tournament is actually a 45+ team composed of retired Air Force members from the San Antonio area playing in their first sanctioned tournament. They are young and inexperienced and just looking to learn the game at the seniors level. Although the tournament scheduling or lack of was a problem for everyone all in all the tournament provided the 40's team just the right amount of exposure that they need to the game. They played the entire tournamnet with the same 13 guys from start to finish despite what FreeAgent10 would like for you to believe.

The experienced players from the other senior teams at all age levels welcomed us in with open arms and shared with us the secrets of how to be successful at the seniors level, these individuals were a class act and we welcomed their advice. I only wish we would have listened to them.

In fact it was players from the Houston Free Agent team that told us to stop over swinging and just take controled swings hard and down through the infield, we appreciate the advice and help from these players as well as many others who gave up their time to help educate us as we continue to learn the game.

We gave up 5 runs to every 50's team that we played, which we were okay with as we just welcomed the opporunity to play and learn the game. We lost both of our seeding games to better teams (Houston Free Agents and Carlito's). We were again being beaten by a good HFA team before we rallied in the open inning to score 17 runs and hang on to win 26-24.

We then played the Hosuton Half Breeds who hit the ball a heck of a lot harder than we do and are a very strong team. Again we were down 7 runs down in the last inning when we came up to bat in the open inning. After our first 2 batters of the inning flew out we went on a run to score 11 straight runs and only won because the Half Breeds hit a HR that counted as an out because they had already used all of their bombs earlier, again another good team that probably should have beaten us. We then played Carlito's who wore us out 34-13 with consistent hitting and solid defense, again another good team that even though they pounded us shared with us many of the errors of our way. Just like the Half Breeds another class act team that was more willing to teach us and share with us then complain about having to play us. Our experience was eye opening and even though we may have a few years of youth over the teams that we played we really enjoyed the opportunity to play and learn from the teams that we played against and found them all to be eager and willing to help us as we continue to learn the game. We have nothing but respect for the teams and players that we played against as we formed many new friendships and were taught some hard lessons by the veterans of the game. We salute you the players and teams (Houston Free Agents, Carlito's, Half Breeds) of the seniors division and thank you for making us feel welcomed.

FreeAgent10 I can understand your frustration with blowing an 11 run lead against us, as you were beaten by a 40's team that isn't as good as you are but just happened to have one good inning when it mattered most. A new 40's AAA team playing in their first tournament ever, I think the tournament director did an outstanding job of pairing us in a bracket where we would have a chance to play and be competitive. Honestly all of the teams that we played agaianst were better teams than us and we took lessons learned from every team that we played and hope to only get better. Senior players are truely gentlemen of the game as well as teachers to the 50 players of tomorrow. You guys are the players that we inspire to become and we respect and admire your game as you can still play the game, man can you ever :-)

FreeAgent10, I don't know what to say to you my friend. Yes, you were beaten by a 45+ team that you had totally outplayed for 5 innings. Are you a better team, without a doubt. However there's no need to fabricate stories and reasons for the loss at the expense of a younger inexperienced team. Again we are thankful for the oppotunity that the Boerne tournament directors gave us by allowing us to play. We are also appreciative of the friendships that we formed with many of the players that we met this past weekend. To you the players of the Houston Free Agents that took the time to spend with us and share with us your knowledge of the game, again we thank you for your time and friendship and don't harness any ill feelings towards any of you based on the comments of FreeAgent10.

Dog, that was a very nice message you put out. Yes, meeting you guys and playing you was fun. Maybe I didn't explain my thoughts as well as I should have. For the record, we complained about playing you before the first game, after we won it and before the second game. We paid to play any of the other 7 50 AAA teams in this bracket. Teams we don't get to play most of the year. We were cheated out of that opportunity. We paid for rooms, traveled there and played a 40/45 y/o team. Thats not what we paid for. Being put into the losers bracket for whatever reason was wrong just because another 50 AAA team was not the team that put us there. In CLute, we were put into a losers bracket due to playing a combination Major/MajorPlus team. We just want to play teams in our division. Playing you in pool play was fine, not in the elimination round and that was my point I meant to make. Be glad to play you guys in pool play anytime, it was fun. According to the score card you submitted, you have 14 guys listed, not 13. So someone did play in the second game that did not play in the first game. Does the number 12 mean anything? Anyways, I think we've made our point to SSUSA that we and other teams were not happy with this tournament. And yes, we waited many hours to play due to not enough fields.
Good luck in your future games. My final say on this matter.

Texas Silverbacks 50 Major team will add what most of you that were there already know:

1. Not enough fields which caused unbearable delays. We were supposed to play at 10:20 AM Sunday morning and did not play until around 1PM. We could not leave and come back because the two teams that were playing in front of us were playing a best out of three and you did not know when they would be done. Of course it went the full three and we were just sitting there trying to stay cool in the hot sun. We were in the 50 Major championship game and did not get done and into the parking lot until 7PM and most of us had a 5 hour drive back to the Dallas area and we lost two players because they had to leave to catch flights so we had to finish with 10 players which did not help.
2. no shade, no shade, no shade
3. field 3/11 was the worst field I have played on in senior tournament softball or any tournament for that matter. The infield near 2nd base was a rock filled sand pit and caused many dangerous bad hops at any level but certainly at the Major level in addition to causing two players I saw to fall down as they approached second base because they hit a sort of gully that was in front of second base. The outfield was spur filled and there were several instances where the outfielder picked the ball up to throw it in and had to pull spurs out of his hand.
4. Getting issued 4 balls in the begining of the tournament is not enough when it was a 5 game guarantee. He should give out 6 balls minimum even if it cost a bit more to enter.

But Kieth knows these things and I think is going to move the tournament next year...to Dallas I hope :)

Congratulations to Austin Rock for winning the 50 Major. We had them both times we played them until they put up 10 in the buffet inning in the first game we played against them in pool to lose by 1 and then they put up 12 in the buffet inning of the championship game.

Hate to pile it on but what hasn't been mentioned was the Field maintenance. There was none, fields were never preped. They didn't get watered, draged, re-chalked or batters boxs preped from what I saw. There was also no trash removal, the trash barrels were full with huge pile of trash piled aroumd them are well as piles of trash in the Dugouts. They did do a good job of keeping water in the dugouts though. If you ever play there bring your own shade, there is ZERO shade. theBull

The five game guarantee !!! should have not been a issue either, but when we finally got the fourth game in Sunday we check with Roy about our fifth game and he gave us the deer with the head light look, And we new what that ment !! So no 5th game no guarantee, especially no credit!!!Again that back field # 3 I lost it going to second and crash and burned trying in four wheel drive through a sand pit & came down on my knee Sat. & that was the end of my game for the weekend, just really bad field condition. And we paid for this !!!

our team also went to this tournament ( been going there the last 3 yrs ) and yes it was poorly run, I see no reason why it was running so late....other than weather or injury to a player... no tournament should be running so late for so long....maybe the fact the Keith wasn't there contributed to this dilema....my only "complaint" was that we weren't told we would me the only AA team in the 50 age group....don't get me wrong playing AAA teams helps my team, but spending entry fee money, hotel rooms and traveling 600 miles to go to a tournament with litle or no chance of winning is sometimes hard to swallow if you know what I mean, but we enjoy playing other teams from Texas

yep # 6 texas pickups are in chris's tournament, the one thng that we know going in is its a one day tournament, we will most likely play 4 games and go home or some one might spend the night . this one will be more enjoyable i'm sure than the last tournament we got into. and we did lose one player for the year that fifth game which was our third in a row was just too must, and costly in terms of injuries.
