Aug. 30 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | High dry heat, some windy afternoons and big fun. Congratulations to Joe Lecak and all the admins for LVSSA. The competition was the best we've seen all year in the 55's major plus. The umping was good. Gary Deaton, Paddy Mac, Craig, Too Tall and the rest of Line Drive who ran the table beating us in the finals for a well deserved victory. We played at Doc Romeo and the fields were maintained as well as could be given the high heat and wind, there was cold water always in the duggouts and the guys who administered us were friendly and efficient. Way to go, Old Guys. The balls were terrific. We used Trump MCT Rock balls the best you can use in high heat. Even though they felt soft they hit very well and I like the soft grip the balls when pitching. Gary Deaton said the conditions were the toughest to pitch in he'd ever seen and he's been pitching since Gettysburg. The only snag on the weekend for me was after jumping in the great pool at the Riviera hotel and swimming around for 10 minutes my pocket in 5 feet of water began to vibrate. My phone! Life guard said it happens a lot or maybe he was just being kind. Back this week for the 50's/60's. Be ready for a challenge and a terrific team if you're comin'. |
Aug. 30 Lecak Men's 60 1026 posts | Joe not sure how much I added this weekend, the real thanks go to George Fernandes, Tom Hutton, Bill Walsh, Russ Curtis, Paul Rubin, Bob Gregorich, Dave Barnes, Bam and a few I'm sure I missed. LVSSA provides a venue for teams who like to hit the ball, I'm proud to be a small part of that I'm sure we could do things better but for a group of volunteers the club members are the best. My first year with these guys and they do a bang up job. |
Aug. 30 hitt2 353 posts | Who won the 55AAA division? |
Aug. 30 ALLPRO 63 posts | 55AAA was won by So. Cal,who went undefeated in both the seeding and bracket play. 2nd was Resulz Realty from Vegas led by their coach and sponsor - Jeff Saterlee, a team with 10 60 players that will be moving up to the 60's in November. |
Aug. 30 softball4b Men's 70 1250 posts | The competition was outstanding. Cold water in dugouts and the fields at Doc Romeo were as good as could be expected, considering the heat and wind. Looking forward to this weekend with the 50's. Only complaint, a couple of the umpires did not have the experience to handle the level and quality of play. |
Aug. 30 canIjack Men's 60 322 posts | Mike A, I totally agree with you about those lazy, lousy umps, who made all their calls from behind the plate. By the way, we did not see any base umps, umpping those elimination rounds? Also, this Tournament has showed me that, WE Southern California guys are really at a disadvantage. We in So Cal really need to get One 55 Major Plus team. That’s right, just like the Northern boys (MTC) and those teams West of California. We really need to take the best 15 guys from our 3 major plus teams and go kick some tail. Each of our Major Plus team have at least 4 0r 5 NONE Major plus players playing. While a team like Virginia and Florida/Detroit and Black & Blue, can pick from 5 to 6 states, and every one of them goes yard. Hell, they hit 8 or 9hrs and it was just the 2nd inning. Hey guys We can win it all if we Join forces. Think about it So Cal. |
Aug. 31 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | canljack-if you have the problems we have had in Albuquerque trying to do the same thing to get a good team, forgeddaboutit. Politics-egos-personal dislike, and, yes, even friendships where friends wouldn't break away for a better team---Good luck. |
Aug. 31 canIjack Men's 60 322 posts | Politics-egos-personal dislike, even friendships where friends wouldn't break away for a better team. Well you got a point, or shall I say a few strong points. But Never say Never. We'll get it together. I just hope there are a few guys out there who still have that Hunger to win, and keep their Friends. |
Aug. 31 curveball Men's 65 705 posts | canjack, you didn't have Dave Barnes as an ump, he did a super job. He didn't need a helper, he did just fine by himself. |
Aug. 31 pushin60 Men's 60 61 posts | Canijack, I’m confused about a few things. Last year all we heard from the M+ ranks was the lack of teams to play in tournaments. Now you want to break up the few M+ teams that there are to make a “Super M+” team. That doesn’t make any sense. Just because they’re doing it up in NorCal doesn’t make it right. What would happen to the rest of the guys from those teams? They would have to form new teams that would probably play major, which would be good for them as it would provide more teams at that level. And since you wouldn’t have anyone left to play against locally, you would end up playing these major teams all the time, so what are you gaining? Unless you have a sponsor with deep pockets that will fly you east all the time to play the other teams that you now can compete with, you have gained nothing. And all this at the expense of the friendships that don’t seem to mean much to you. |
Aug. 31 Player25 Men's 55 50 posts | Interesting comment about everyone can go yard. Let check the conditions: Wind blowing dead out to left at say 20-30 mph, using a mct ball, senior bats. Guessing just about anyone could hit it out under those conditions. I did not see any team hit 8-9 hrs in the first two innings. I know our team only hit 12 hrs in a game once in the tourney if with the above conditions. As to the tourney, I thought it was poorly ran, the games were 1-2 hours off schedule (can not allow 1.5 hours per game if games are 70 minute time limit with 9 runs per inning and the open inning), umpires with a few exceptions were terrible. One could not even get the "flip" correct and walked off the field. Another had the wrong homerun count for a team. Did not know the rules, etc. As to cold water in the dugouts, if you had to play a late game, there was no water. However, an official(unknown name) did allow us to buy bottled water and reimburse a team. For me personally, I would rather never play in the LVSSA again. Over the years it has been poorly run. However, it was the most teams we have had in our bracket all year. |
Sept. 1 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | Player25-just one comment for consideration about the number of actual HR's hit--most of us make a determined effort NOT to hit it out in early innings because of the HR limit. I am certain that if we were free swinging without worrying about limits and being out, there would be a lot more. We have all played in tourneys that didn't work out for some reason. Sorry to hear you all had such a disappointing time. Albuquerque teams weren't real happy either in 106 degree heat. |
Sept. 1 FOFO Men's 60 284 posts | A big Congratulations to Rezultz Reality on a strong showing. Great group of guys and good luck in the 60's. |
