Discussion: Age question for Feb TOC Florida

If you are 54 yrs old and will turn 55 in mid 2017, can you play on a 55 team in The TOC in February

Discussion: Is it a strike if ball hits front edge of strike mat and also kicks up some dirt?

JT....if you put a 1 inch strike mat for a strike, you KNOW somebody is going to fall, trip, stumble at least once an inning over it......the sound/noise part is good but the physical part of it is the problem....

Discussion: 1-1-----0-0 count

we did our fall league 1-1 with a screen......games lasted 1.5 hours tops....some were shorter and the reason we knew this is because the sun went away and there were no lights on the field....it takes a little getting used to but 1-1 definitely sped up our games......the screen was probably hit less than 10 times in the 8 games our team alone played...there were 3 other teams so I would say middle shots were way down also for their games.....I always said to go the other way in balls and strikes in a 0-0 count...3 balls is a walk and 3 strikes is an out

Discussion: Running up ????

90-95% of the fields we play on have NO batter's box....we used to say as long as you didn't cross over the plate, you could "run" up as far as you wanted....I believe the rule has changed.....but the question remains......what if there is no box????

Discussion: Speed up rules

our summer leagues use a full count and games could take 2 hours....our fall leagues used a 1-1 count and games lasted 1.5 hours at most......our example showed that 1-1 does speed up league games but tourney games are different......a little more at stake and decisions may take a bit more......anyway, our experiment with 1-1 shortened games.....it takes a little more to get adjusted to doing but once you set your mind to aggressively go after the first good ball you see, you get back to your normal full count approach

Discussion: Where to get a pitching screen

I have searched high and low for a portable, fold up pitching screen.....our team is looking for the kind that has the snap poles and the netting with the rings that slide up and down the poles and when it is stored, it fits in the base of the unit.....they are about 250 to 300 dollars from what I have heard from the guys.....now the hard part, where can I find them.....thanks

Discussion: Zytiga/Prednizone

my mom was on prednisone for years to combat COPD....a serious side effect is that it makes bones brittle as we found out later with many micro fractures in her spine.......if it is short term, it will do it's job, but long term has serious side effects....use as doctor directs

I will add that Alan is top notch also....I have met him personally and talked to him on the phone many times....he always answers my texts and emails and is never to busy for me.....any problems, he takes care of them for me.....we all could try to do what he does but after a week or two of me and all my softball buddies, I would resign.....we are a very demanding group to say the least....I have nothing but high praise and respect for the man and not only does he supply good information and equipment, he backs it up by his playing and competing....Brian from Syracuse

Discussion: 3N2 Shoes

uh-oh...just bought 2 more pairs of Boombah Riots too....maybe that's why they were 20 and 25 bucks for a pair BUT, they feel great with extra insole and traction is superb...no separation issues yet....also used successfully Mizuno eruption turf shoes and had great luck with them.....I am sure they all are good in some respects but everyone has different feet so one person's success is another's failure

Discussion: Getting released from a team you don't want to play for any longer

imagine if we played for money....prize money!!!.....I remember a long time ago playing in cash tourneys....it went downhill from there....teams started loading up, rec teams disappeared, leagues folded and all that was left were super teams.....what used to be a 14 team league sunk down to 3 or 4 and that was the beginning of the end....if a guy wants to leave, let him go....it's not always greener on the other side and wouldn't you rather play with friends than be a part of a super team and lose good relationships that you had for 20plus years over softball.....I don't know, I guess I am getting old
