Discussion: Compare the Senior Softball World Tourneys

Without a doubt the SPA is the most organized, best run of all the senior worlds. The awards are the best by far of any tournament I have been to. The opening ceremonies and all star games make it seem like a real world tournament. The firelds are very good and the balls are very good.

I don't know the Minn. Masters or their situation but they were at major for some reason and were moved down to AAA right before the world and they won it. That doesn't look good when that happens and it happens quite often. I don't blame the players or coaches they areonly human and greedy. The main problem are tournament directors that don't follow their own rules.

You can gripe and complain all you want on the chat board but if you are serious about changes you need to wite the heads of the associations and let them know your opinion and also give them some solutions to the problems. It's the same problem of tournament directors not keeping up with players and teams. Let's face there are only a small number of senior competitive teams out there so keeping track should be easy. Use the coaches of the teams to help police the rosters. Make rosters available online before every world or national tournament and if there are illegal players or teams the coaches from the other teams will let you know.

Each player should have a history that is recorded on some computer program. After every world tournament the players on the winning and second place team would be entered. When a player appeals his history can be brought up and reviewed. All it would take is to spend some of the money we spend for our cards to be used for some programmer to make a program to handle our needs. We need to track the players and teams better than we do now. The only way that will get done is if the summitt cooperates (ha ha )

This is not the first time this has happened. It is more of the norm than the exception. As usual tournament directors are more concerned with the bottom dollar than fair play. There are too many senior organizations that are cutthroat against each other and it is getting worse every year. Before long we will have the same problems as open ball. If these tournament directors don't start watching players these problems will only get worse. I know of one player that played for 5 different teams in 5 different world tournaments and made all world at least three times. The tournament directors know him too and do nothing about it. Until you rate players you will continue to have players play in whatever division they want with any team they want.

Discussion: Terry, Is it time for a "2" division senior national?

If you allowed the U2 and used 47 core 525 balls the major and major plus would play games in the 50 and 60 or higher and games would last 2 or 3 hours. You can't have it both ways either hot bats and sock balls or bat restrictions and good balls.

No legal bat comes even close to the Ultra II. Also Miken makes the Worth Mayhem so I don't think they would make it as hot as the Maniac. The Mayhem, Maniac, and Catalyst are all very close and are the top bats next to the Ultra II

Discussion: Changes

The only way to control where home run hitters play is restricting home runs and making any home runs over the limit outs. All home runs over the limit should be out in AA and AAA. This will encourage players to move up.

I also think the mat should be bigger and the plate not a strike.

Major and major + should be allowed to use 11 defensive players.

Allow only metal bats no composites. Composite bats should only be used in the higher age groups not 50 and 55.

Rate pl;ayers do not let players win mutiple titles in the AA and AAA.

Watch more closely for illegal rosters and new pickup teams. Use the coaches to help identify sandbagging teams and illegal players. Let the managers help rate teams.

Tournament directors quit letting teams add players to their rosters before world tournaments. If they can't pickup players from the next highest group don't let them play.

Discussion: Illegal players

Terry is one of the main problems. He allows teams to pickup players that have played for other teams in SSWC qualifiers in the same age group, I know he heres these sob stories from teams that have had players injured or quit but how can you get into the business of deciding whose excuse is better and how can you be sure that the team is not lying. If they are trying to pickup illegal players then I don't think they would have any problem lying. This is a blantant violation of the rule book he signs his name to. If you are not going to follow the rules then take the rule out or quit making exceptions to the rule. If a team can't pickup players from the next highest age group then guess what? Don't play we'll see you next year.

Discussion: Illegal Players!!

Being player friendly is still cheating if the player is illegal. I don't have any problem as long a sthe tournament director lets everyong know players are being added to teams against the rules. Again why have rules on adding players if you are not going to enforce them. I guess rules are only for honest teams. If your team adds a player for the world and he is not in the next age group then you are cheating. Even if you have the tournament directors permission it is still cheating and you are a cheater. Any team that wins a world tournament with illegal players should be branded cheater and whenever their name is mentioned the word cheater should be included in all conversations. .

I suggest the tournament directors let teams know ahead of time that they will be going against the rules and allow pickups for their tournament. Then you know where you stand and won't be surprised when you see teams with illegal pick up players.

This is a pickup team from two or three different teams. They will be a very good AAA because most played major ball all year. Another case of tournament directors allowing pickup teams in their so called national tournaments. National tournaments should be for teams who play by the rules and tournaments that allow pickup teams and players should be called cheater tournaments so honest teams will know what they are getting in to.

The five run rule, mercy rule and time limit were not meant to be used together. This is softball and no time limit should be used if a five run limit is used. You should always have an unlimited inning with a chance to win a game even if you are behind by 25 runs. This use of 5 run innings, mercy rule and time limits are tools used by tournament directors to shorten the game. any tournament director that uses this policy should be removed and declared an idiot for life then put in charg of a sport with a clock.

That is why players should be rated. No player should be allowed to win more that one world tournament in th AA or AAA division of each age group/ Once you wing a world title in AA or AAA of your age group you should have to play the next higher division until you get to the next age group. Directors need to move more teams up and less teams down and make them play the whole year.

That's great I hope they play major+ next year. They will be the first Chicago major + team I have seen. My point is a city as big as Chicago should have teams in every division. My point is TD need to look at players and what teams tey have played for. Do you think the Chicago 55 should have been able to pick up a 55 who played for a 50 major team and a 55 AAA team during the year? Is it fair to the teams that played fair and went by the rules. Even if the TD said it is okay it is still against the rules.

It seems to me that the Chicago teams win a lot of AA and AAA world tournaments but I don't see very many Major or Major + teams from Chicago winning or even playing in World Tournaments. Why not? Also how was the Chicago 55 AAA team allowed to pick up a player who made the all world team for a 50 major team at Plano in June and who also played for a 55 AAA team in two SPA qualifiers? I thought you could only pick up players from the next age group up not the same age group. The 55 Chicage team won the AAA easily and would have won it without the illegal player. Just another example of not going by the rules. It amazes me to see a group of players playing for 4 or 5 different teams in different world tournaments. We are losing the integrity of the game.

Discussion: Add 3 Major Plus players to AAA team in Az.

SSUSA is the worst organization about letting players be added to rosters for the world. I have seen it happen every year, Good players from good teams are added to good teams and allowed to play in the SSUSA World Tournament. SSUSA is all about money. There awards suck just like the balls they use. But most players don't care because they can use their Ultra II. They will have 20 to 30 teams in each age group but you will be lucky to get a t-shirt if you win.l
