Discussion: Clarify rule when runners are on base

The rule is to prevent leading off not for safety. I would think a competent Umpire would realize player safety over obtaining an advantage(lead-off).It is possible to stay on the bag until the ball is pitched and still get into foul territory. I've been hit while coaching base and had no restriction to stay on the base. So Adding an Orange would prevent what?

Discussion: ASA Bats Not Allowed in Vegas

BJ the bat has to be STAMPED 1.21 or lower.
However per D.Dowell statement the major reason appears to be that ASA has not paid the Certification fee.

"ASA and the bat certification entities don't see eye to eye on the fees charged to secure certification".

This appears to conclude that if the Cert fees were agreed to (paid) an agreement could be reached that would allow the use of ASA bats with or without the 1.20-1.21.

Discussion: Burlington nc tournament this weekend

I think you answered your own question. Burlington is an ASA tourney. Not sponsored nor sanctioned by SSUSA.

See link below. Sad turn out for a National tournament.

Discussion: RATING UPDATE

There appears to be a trend with the Associations attempting to "standardize" team ratings.
Playing Major in SSUSA and playing AAA in SPA or ISSSA may be a thing of the past.
Matching Association ratings will be the norm. Which in my opinion will aleviate a a lot of the "we don't belong" contentions.

pizzaboy. There are only 3 automatic move up Tourneys. The Alantic Coast is not one of them.

There has to be other considerations that caused the move-up. Roster conposition and run differential being the prominent factors.(not just the tourney you win but, overall run differential.) SSUSA has created a mad science that's not understood by all but,as far as I know and understand they use their "science" fairly across all teaams. jmo

"automatic move" championships in a bracket of more than five teams ... Those three tournaments are ...

1. The LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters in Las Vegas;
2. The SPA World Championships in Dalton, GA; and
3. The ISA Senior World Series in Columbus, IN

Staff. If a team has already qualified for the TOC as a Major team and is re-rated to M+ what rating would they now play TOC?

Discussion: WORLDS AND NEW 4 DAY FORMAT

OZone8 curveball probably a bit late with previously posted Lorenzi Park info.
paraphased below:

• We did NOT change two (of the four) sessions to the four-day format for any reason other than to accommodate what has been a modest projection of 2½-3% annual entry growth ... Last year's 612 teams is projected to be somewhere around 630± this year ... It would be irresponsible for us to allow teams commit to air fares and housing costs, sometimes months in advance, only to be told "you can't come, we have too many teams and can't accommodate you" ...
• The City of Las Vegas has seriously restricted our historical field availability ... Their Risk Management Department has forced Parks and Recreation to close half of Lorenzi Park (Fields #2-3) because of purported "safety concerns" over balls being hit into the homes outside #2 and the commercial parking lots outside #3 ... They have also restricted Doc Romeo Park #5 for the same reason as it relates to the Skate Park ... Previously, those two parks were unaffected by Local League considerations, but now the former 7-field CLV inventory between the two parks is down to four fields, two at each facility ... That circumstance makes the former seven (now FOUR) fields virtually unusable as currently permitted for both the Southwest Championships and the World Masters ...

Carry on! ...

Discussion: Was the ump right??

I understand the rule but, as written the batter-runner is given leeway to touch the white portion to avoid a collision but the first baseman is not allowed the same leeway to avoid acollision and touch the Orange portion. At rule "face value" (and facetiously) the first baseman does not have to "avoid a collison" when attempting an out and must touch the white bag ?

Discussion: WORLDS AND NEW 4 DAY FORMAT

Current structure with a limited number of fields and an unlimited number of teams we can't get around extendding the number of days.

It is very easy to get the Tourney back to 3 days-even two days for a few Divisions "if that's what we want".So be careful of what you wish for.

Simply eliminate the seeding games would eliminate 14-1500 meaningless games off the schedule right off the top.

Discussion: Is the infield fly rule based on physical ability to catch the ball?

Nancy I’ve had you and Stick as umpires in games that I’ve played. 2 of the better ones I might add. Hopefully INF rule never happens again in one of your games.
The last game I played and every game that I’ve ever seen, the area between Home Plate and the Pitcher’s mound was in the infield. However because we play Senior INF somehow doesn’t apply for a ball hit between home and the Pitchers mound????
The ball “plays itself”. INF and most other calls are called in relationship to the ball. We are not calling INF because of where the infielder is playing , if the infielder has the capability to catch the ball, if the infielders didn’t move, or if he stayed in a” Holiday Inn last night”. It’s where the BALL is hit (infield), first and second base bases occupied - less than 2 outs. “INFIELD FLY”

Major plus SS, 2nd baseman, 3rd base can all be found to play deep and on the outfield grass. So in your “what routine is” scenario there would is no INF called because the SS, 2nd baseman couldn’t get to the ball with ordinary effort because they play so deep (short left field)? You might find it fair to” judge” it that way but, that’s not the Rule.

As a Player I would much rather here from an Umpire? ” That’s the Rule” than “in my judgment”. I’ve seen many Umpires and Tourney Directors pull Rule books out of their pockets but, never have I seen one pull out a “Judgment” . Those come from a bit farther south!

Just IMO
