Fields in Vegas
I just saw that the 50 AAA will be played at Shadow Rock.
I have never played there, but from all the discussions, it is pretty bad.
Will there be any efforts to make them playable this year?
I have played at BLD and it was great. I know Shadow Rock will never be like that, but I hope it will not be as bad as advertised.
Just my 2 cents.

PS, was this the park where everyone got sick drinking the water?

coop3636 ... Shadow Rock is a four-field complex with two outstanding relatively new dirt (infield) & artificial (outfield) turf fields and two dirt/grass fields that are, as stated by others, not as nice as the newer ones ... The primary fields for the 50-AAA will be Shadow Rock and Lorenzi, with overflow games also at Arroyo Grande, Desert Bloom, Doc Romeo and Hollywood ... There will be 15 games on Championship Sunday at Shadow Rock, with 10 of them being on the newer fields ... There will be five games (two Elimination Bracket and three Championship bracket) on the other two fields early before things line up in single file on Field #3 ...

The Complex you mentioned with the bad water issues was Sunset Park during park re-construction a few years ago, a circumstance that is no longer present there ...

We played 50AAA last year at Shadow Rock. The fields are fine but the location is kind of remote. AAA got to play Big League Dreams in 2011 & 2012 and that was great. No doubt BLD is the best place to play at this tourney. SSUSA can explain why the big guys get BLD but I believe it's that there are too many AAA teams and not enough fields at BLD to accommodate. We played Desert Bloom in 2011 and my experience and review on that complex is not be positive at all but that was a long time ago. I'm hoping our team gets to play at Lorenzi or the other parks we haven't got to play on.

The guys always get BLD.... last time Women's 40s played there was Nov 2010. Shadow Rock is the worst of the complex's we've played at and we're usually stuck out there so its nice to see we wont be there this fall. Though two of the fields are actually nice, the other two are horrible, its a bit of a drive and its not through the best neighborhoods to get there. Ive gotten my nose busted at Hollywood after a bad hop off the extremely tall lip between infield/outfield so Im hoping Arroyo is as nice as Ive heard. I dont know if Ive played there yet.

I have played 50AAA for 3yrs in Vegas and before that in Phoenix . We have never played on BLD and now that we are playing 55AAA It looks like we still are not going to. Shadow Rocks two fields are nice but the other two are horrible. We had to play semis on the two crap fields because of women's tournament. Why is the biggest classes in this tournament being subjected to the worst facilities? We had to play it Cheyene the first year there and the lights went out in the 7th inning. And the next year the lights went out at shadow rock.

WHY MAKE ONE DIVISION PLAY AT SHADOW ROCK? We all pay the same amount to play but don't get to play on the best fields.

Question to Staff, and I know its 3 months out:

For Shadow Rock, can you request that the grass be edged down the right field and left field in conjunction with the fair and foul lines?

In April, the grass was bad down the lines, and there was no painted line such that we all agreed ( umpires and managers) that if it hit grass it was fair, if it hit dirt it was foul.

Thank you for your help.

wdodge is on the right track. The biggest gripe on Shadow Rock is the length of grass on the 2 fields. It's always way beyond time to mow. Having the grass cut at a proper length several times before the tourney started could help a bunch. It would be time well invested to have a conversation with the head of the grounds crew.
