Hollis Appraisals softball team beat a very good Superior team 2 out of 3 games, alot of Homeruns against a strong wind blowing in from left. they played a great 3 man outfield running down some unbelieveable balls. Great game to watch

I would still like an answer to why 40 year olds were playing against 50 year olds? Some of the 50 teams never played against 40's while we played 3 of 5 games against 40's. Mid-Atlantic 40's had 3 losses in a double-elimination tournament.

gman67.... There were only two 40s teams entered in the tournament. Having the 40s play a best 5 of 9 wasn't going to happen, so they were combined with the 50 Major teams.

The 40/50 group played a standard 3 game guarantee bracket (not double elimination), which explains how Mid-Atlantic had 3 losses when it was all said & done.

As to why some 50 yr old teams never played a 40s team... well, that is just the way the bracket unfolded. There was only one 50s team (AB Contracting) that didn't play against a 40s team. Had AB Contracting lost at 12:30 on Saturday, OR had Superior 40s won at 2:00 on Saturday then every 50 yr old team would have played at least one game against a younger opponent.

gman67 ... Tim explained it quite well, but here are some statistics for this group of (1) 40-Major, (1) 40-AAA, (1) 50-Major+, (1) 55-Major+ and (4) 50-Major (after one team withdrew late) ... The games were played under Major rules and the 40-Major gave an equalizer in all games, with the other games played straight up ...

SEEDING • 40-M did not participate, and 40-AAA went 2-0 vs. 50-Major by a total run differential of +5 (+2.5 avg.)

BRACKET • Excluding the Elimination game against each other, the two 40's teams were 2-4 in bracket play, with a total run differential of -35 (-5.8 avg.) ... The two wins by the 40's were by a total of 4 runs ...

NOTES • Team USA was 3-0 vs. the 40's and 0-2 vs. the 50's in bracket play, with both losses coming against the Champion, AB Contracting ... In any three-game-guarantee bracket, all teams remain alive regardless of the outcome of their first two games ... Mid-Atlantic lost their first two in bracket play, and suffered elimination with their third loss later ...

This was a very competitive mix of teams with close games being the norm rather than the exception ... I wouldn't hesitate to schedule it the exact same way if this mix of teams presents itself in the future ...

grd8sbnut ... The teams earning USA National Game berths make those Las Vegas attendance decisions, not SSUSA ... Two Eastern Champions in Raleigh indicated they would not be going to Las Vegas ... If those indications hold true, the bids to the USA National Game in those divisions will be extended to the Runner-up should they choose to go ... If neither the Champion or the Runner-up goes, there will be no representative in the USA National Game ... The two Eastern teams were the Lewisville Masters (60-AAA • Runner-up was No. Virginia Force) and the Bailey Talent Cavaliers (70-AAA • Runner-up was Syracuse Cyclones 70) ...

The problem with 40s playing 50s . Everyone is there for the 1 or 2 seed in Vegas nothing else. 40s should not be sending teams home.the winner bracket 3 games with out a break on Saturday was also a joke. Played at 1230/200/330 in winners bracket. Putting 40s in 50bracket when the 40s already had there 1 or 2seeds in Vegas was a very bad idea .Reid Miller pitcher usa

r4pitch ... Respectfully, the "problem" for your team was not the 40's ... You put BOTH of them in the Elimination Bracket (where one of them eliminated the other) and then your team eliminated that winner in the 3rd Place game ... By the way, neither 40's team put ANY team into the Elimination Bracket ... Your "problem" was simply that AB Contracting/Nobles Painting was a better ball club in the two games you lost to them ... And as the Home team you could gave forced an "If" game (where anything can happen) if you had scored more than two runs in the bottom of the open inning of the Championship game ...

I am not talking about how we finished. We had our chances. This is for this tourney every year 40 should not be playing 50 in double elm when you are playing for 1 or 2 seed in Vegas . The 40 did give loses to 50 teams. I don't here anything about 3 winner brackets games in a row. Since this tourney has such a important part to Vegas . 40 play 40s 50s should play 50s. The 55 or 60s didn't want to play 50s. ITo the other ? AB and team USA are going to Vegas. Also elite 40s are going with there 1 or 2 seed

Florida Automated Shade was eliminated by Mid-Atlantic 40's after Mid-Atlantic had already lost two games. Superior 40's eliminated Team Elite. I don't see how playing three games back to back to back was considered kosher in the winners bracket. I congratulate AB Contracting for winning. They are a very good team. I do however disagree with the format of your tournament and look forward to hopefully whomever made these decisions to be replaced for next year!

By the way, why did Mid-Atlantic 40's not play on Friday as all the other teams were required to do. Is this why they didn't get their required 5 games causing the mixed 40's/50's schedule? Or were they just showed favoritism?

r4pitch and gman67 ... I am the guy who wrote the schedule, as I do for ALL SSUSA administered tournaments nationally, ranging from smaller tournaments like the Eastern's (60 teams/193 games) up to the Las Vegas World Masters (2014: 506 teams/1,713 games/43 fields/13 softball complexes) ... I have been doing this for over 12 years, so it's highly likely I'll be doing it for a few more, especially since nobody else has volunteered to step up and I authored and own the intellectual property rights to the software that does it all! ...

I have read and heard (I was the Field Director on your "Wheel" in Raleigh) the complaints/criticisms, only from your team, for a full week now, so here are the facts and reasons for the schedule structure ... They are logically sound, you just happen to disagree, which is OK ... That's the nature of a generally unregulated, anonymous forum like this ...

• The 40-AAA and 50-Major teams all carry a Ratings Index of 8 and the 40-Major R/I is 9, which is why they gave an equalizer in all games ... We believed then, and still do with the luxury of 20-20 hindsight, that was a level playing field for all teams involved;
• The 40's were blended with the 50's to avoid having them play a Best 5 of 9 series for the 5-game guarantee by themselves ... It also allowed you to play more teams, which is the usual request for bigger brackets;
• Each 40's team eliminated one 50-Major, put NO teams into the Elimination Bracket, and faced each other in a "win or go home game" ... You eliminated the winner of that game ...
• Your tournament winning percentages were 1.000 vs. 50-Major+, 0.000 vs. 55-Major+ (same R/I and played under Major rules), 1.000 vs. 40's teams, and 0.000 vs. 50's teams ... The 40's were GOOD for you, the 50-Major, not so good ...
• We changed the dates of play to include the 40's on Friday when it became apparent that there were only two and would be some sort of blend with the (1) 50-Major+, (1) 55-Major+, (2) 40's and (4) 50-Major (remember, one 50-Major team withdrew mid-week) ...
• The 40-Major could not get enough players off work with such limited notice to play Friday, so we placed them last in the bracket and the 40-AAA graciously volunteered to play them early Saturday in a meaningless game so the 40-Major could get some sort of warmup game prior to bracket ...
• We split out the 50/55-Major+ into a Best 2 of 3 Saturday because they had requested to be out Saturday ... Putting the 40-Major in with them would not have been feasible since they couldn't play Friday;
• You played three in a row on Saturday to avoid me having to schedule a single game in your bracket, which, as it turned out, WOULD have been your game at 6:30 PM on Saturday ... It would have been the only 6:30 PM game across all 9 fields, and there were Raleigh City Staffing and umpires issues ... If there is any admission of error in this, I'll offer one here, but this is the only one ...

As mentioned previously, I'd do it again identically if the factual circumstances were the same ...
