| Aug. 30, 2015 grayhitter59 Men's 60 345 posts | Baseloaded Senerio; Bases loaded, 1 out bottom of 7th inning, batter hits a ball over left centers head, runner on third runs in, but step on hitting home plate, home team runs onto field celebrating win. Umpire calls runner from third out. Question what happens next, is it dead ball no advancement, any obstruction call? Game over,what? |

| Aug. 31, 2015 DMac Men's 60 207 posts | Swing is 100% correct. If the runner on second scored then the game is over. If the runner on second joined the dogpile before time was called, then grab your gloves boys, we are talking extra innings. |
| Sept. 1, 2015 stick8 1992 posts | Had a similar type play in a USSSA world tournament about 7 years ago. Winners bracket final, tie score, bottom of the 7th, bases loaded with 2 outs. Pitcher walks the batter to force in the winning run. The whole team runs out and celebrates!! I'm the field ump and I note the batter-runner touches first but the runner on first never touches second--he runs in and celebrates!! So I'm watching and an alert rightfielder gets the game ball from the catcher and runs out to second and touches it. Take a guess as to what happened?? |
| Sept. 1, 2015 STL0 Men's 60 231 posts | Stick8: You got yelled at for 15 minutes and had to throw at least one person out? Good call though and you have to make it. I always watch for that kind of thing in game ending situations. It's amazing how many people forget to finish the play. |
| Sept. 1, 2015 stick8 1992 posts | Well after calling the runner out on the force there was a lot of yelling!! here's what went down: The home team argued the plate umpire called "ballgame" after the winning run came across--which I did not see nor hear and vice versa. After consulting with the tournament director/state UIC the question became did the force occur before "ballgame" was called. We couldn't honestly determine that so the UIC ruled force at second, no run, start the 8th inning. The visiting team scored 6 runs and then 3 players on the home team totally lost it and started cussing up a storm at us. We ejected the three player which cut them down to below the limit--forfeit. Then they really became unglued!! When they calmed down they lodged a protest and the national UIC ruled in their favor--for reasons I'm still not sure of. The home team won, then they lost and then won again--all in the same game. |

Just like a walk off homer.. once the run in forced in via walk game over before anyone hits a base.. it would end these types of endings.. |
| Sept. 4, 2015 stick8 1992 posts | They could do that swing. In USSSA they did that on dead ball appeal plays. Before you had to wait for time in, pitcher on the rubber, step off, announce what your appealing, throw to the base. You still have to wait for the batter to be in the box (time to be in) but now you just ask the ump. |
| Sept. 4, 2015 STL0 Men's 60 231 posts | Stick: That's the first time I have heard of a call of "ballgame" meaning that is an official end to a game. I've never heard of an umpire making that call in my experience. Is that something that an umpire would actually call and would signify the end of the game no matter what the situation is? That's a new one on me. |
| Sept. 4, 2015 stick8 1992 posts | Well, it's not universally accepted or required that an umpire must call ballgame when the game is over. Some do, some don't. Some might say "that's it" or "game over" or "time limit" and some might not say anything at all. |
