New Glove - Break in
I am sure there is information all over the forums, but I don't have the patience to search for it....

I recently got a brand new glove from Arizona, and was curious as to what players are using as a best practice for break in, and how long break in periods are for most gloves today.

Thank you

Bill

Bill, just ordered another glove myself. Expect it to come tomorrow. My current glove will be good for this season but I don't like when the glove starts to get too soft. So when I get the new one I will take a softball, put it in the pocket and wrap a shoelace around it. When I get the opportunity will start to break it in during practice (I am in NY so it will be a while before we start to go outside) and use my regular glove for games and tournaments.
I know there are glove creams out there, some use shaving cream, others put it in the oven along with some of them. Not making this up - a few years ago, one of my teammates put the glove in the microwave. He burned the glove and we had a good laugh at his expense.

I bought one of those 1 pound softballs for arm rehab and adding strength to my throwing arm. I found playing catch with this ball broke in my new glove better than any other way. Kinda killed two birds with one stone.

Keep your new glove in the TV room of the house and just keep working it while watching TV.

I have Nokona gloves. I only use there conditioner on the glove. The best way to break a glove in is to play catch and if you have a ball with a handle attached and pound on the pocket. Make sure to break the hinges in on the glove. I condition the inside a lot but only do the outside a couple times a year to keep the back of the glove stiff. The Nokona website has a video on the proper way to break in a glove.

I use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on the outside and inside of my glove. A good coat slowly melted in with a hair dryer.

Glove does not get slick and with inside also coated in summer moister is not that hard on the glove.

I like a center pocket, so while watching TV put a ball in glove, grab thumb of glove with left hand, get little finger of glove with right hand doing a push/pull motion. this will break glove in a lot and allow glove flex to hold ball when playing defense.

I will put 2 coats on prior to season and one during mid summer.
