Dec. 10 audieh Men's 60 249 posts | Best Outfielder Great discussion on great hitters. For my money, Rick Perez, is the best infielder I have ever seen. However, there certainly are many other good ones. I think one qualification is longevity. The best outfielder I have seen is Mike Walker. The old Marine is turning 60 and did not play this year. However, over the past 9 years I have had the pleasure of playing with what I think is the best ever at that position. Am I biased, sure, but in this case it is deserved. Mike is a rare combination of fast, excellent anticipation, the best arm I have ever seen in the outfielder, incredible timing, and the ability to carry a team by himself. This coupled with a strong will to win and an awesome bat results in one world class outfielder. Let's hear from some others on their best and maybe we can come up with an un-official dream team outfield. The only qualification is you must have played senior ball for at least 5 years. Then it would be interesting to do the same for pitchers. |
Dec. 10 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | r Verne Fowler of California Rebels, Kelly Sports and MTC 55's is the best outfielder I've seen. Best arm and runs through fences. Simply the best. Best Pitchers Mickey Hughes Mark Huber Billy from Palm Springs/Evolution A/C Linde |
Dec. 11 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | r Mike Walker did play in the SSUSA Winternationals this past November. I don't know of any outfielder, 55 or 60, that would match Mike's speed or arm. Pretty fantastic for a 60 year old! At one time Richard Lawson from the Florida panhandle was an aswsome outfielder with speed and a great arm. He also had a great bat. He had some shoulder surgery about 4 year ago and never fully recovered. |
Dec. 11 2awesom Men's 50 308 posts | r There are lots of Great Outfielders at the 50-55 Age level, no doubt. If I had to pick one of the Best though, I'd nominate Clarke Farrell from the Philadelphia, PA area. The complete package and at 53 yrs old he just seems to be getting better all the time! Happy Holiday's everyone! |
Dec. 11 lazer larry Men's 50 95 posts | r I have to add 2 names to the list. Dave Pott runs like a deer and a great glove. Just don't make him wear a hat. LOL Denny Pugh( alis Weekend @ Bernies) fast, great glove and an arm like Popeye. These guys play for Coors Light |
Dec. 11 lazer larry Men's 50 95 posts | r You know, come to think it. Dave looks a little like Olive Oil. They do look like a couple standing together in the outfield. LOL |
Dec. 11 butch17 Men's 55 412 posts | r lazer, Did you before or after the parking lot.:) |
Dec. 11 butch17 Men's 55 412 posts | r lazer, Was supposed to be "Did you look before or after the parking lot. I must have typed it after the parking lot. lol |

Dec. 11 the wood Men's 65 1123 posts | r Two words... Randy Faulkner. for those of you that don't know him he plays with Vern Fowler on MTC 55... great hitter w/ power when he sees fit, great arm (actually, it's virtual cannon), great knowledge of hitters, great speed, great lead off man with foul-line-to-foul-line bat control, great endurance, devastating base runner... if you haven't seen the Squirmin' German he is worth the price of admission... and I've seen damn near all of them from Curtis Williams, Mike Nye, Dick Bartel, Richard Wilborn, Mike Cellura, Bo Webber, Donny 'the Male Model' Woods and Denny Jones to Mike Walker (very talented, 5 tool), Vern Fowler (a real outfield animal), Mike Cosgrove (also pitched for Astros, MLB arm with a real quick bat), Ron Parnell (yeah, he does that, too), Lefty Chell (one of the purest fielders), Dave Sells (he also pitched MLB, hits homers),Jerry 'Chief Dark Cloud' McCollough (little known but highly appreciated in So West) and Randy. Having stated all of this, Randy is the very best one I have seen... all things considered... and we only played together one season. He also has one of thickest skulls ever... :-) he is as smart as a whip and as stubborn as a mule. I left out Mike Lorden who was great 30 years ago, great in the 40s and would be great if he played regularly today. BW |
Dec. 11 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | r I had the good luck to play with Lorden a couple of times on Kelly's and he's a monster, Woody. You got good taste. Randy Faulkner is a great outfielder, too and he and Verne Fowler play in the same outfield, along with George Robinson making it easy to see why MTC 55's are the best in the country. |
Dec. 12 pushin60 Men's 60 61 posts | r I'm surprised no one mentioned the guy (sorry, don’t know his name) who plays r. center for the KC Kids. He is the fastest guy I’ve ever seen run the bases in senior ball. We’ve played them twice in Phoenix the last two years and didn’t get him out. He hit a ball to our l. centerfielder, and was on third before our guy, who is a very competent fielder, could get it in. Then he hit one about 80 ft. over the fence the next time. He takes away hits with his speed and has a good arm too. |
Dec. 14 softball4b Men's 70 1250 posts | r On any given day Best Outfielder, I hate playing against Vern because he will go get everyfreaking thing, but I love watching him. Best Infielder, 3b from Windy City. Best Hair, SS from Tucson Bandits, close second Jim from Colorado Hardest Pitcher to hit - Bill Gombos Best Fielding Pitcher - Einstein |
Dec. 14 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | r Gotta agree with the hair! But best fielding pitcher has got to go to "Psycho" also on the Tucson Bandits! |
Dec. 15 stick8 1992 posts | r Einstein I had the pleasure of playing with George at the Huntsman games this past year. What a great guy!! There was this one play that I'll never forget. A routine fly ball was hit toward him and playing next to him in the of I said "right at ya". He backed up about 8 or 10 steps and let the ball bounce in front of him. It was rather comical watching it as we were all laughing at it. We were razzing him pretty good about it & even he admitted after he had a brain fart. You had to be there to appreciate the humor. He also has an unusual swing, almost like he hacks at the ball. But it sure gets good results!! I'd much rather be playing with him on the same team than playing against him. I know he's had some health issues and if you see him tell him I said hello and hope he remains healthy. Guys like him are what makes playing this game enjoyable. |
Dec. 15 JamesLG 421 posts | r I will add the best leftfielder I have seen in senior ball was on the Wolfpack in Tacoma. Joe Patnode. Joe can run a ball down with anybody and better than average arm. He is also an excellent hitter. Best arm I have seen in senior ball was a couple years ago the Maruaders out of Canada had a guy who could just plain bring it. I believe he played left/center. He was an ex pitcher I was told but he had a gun to say the least. Thanks: James |
Dec. 15 Mr. Manassas 244 posts | r Mike Walker gets my vote. I played a couple of years ago with a guy by the name of Tom malvich who also was exceptional. Also Billy rice before the operations to his knee. |
Dec. 16 jimjoes-gman Men's 55 80 posts | r On the subject of fast, sure handed gloves.Jim & Joes 60 major ,left fielder John White & 65yr old Ed Perry in left center are gazells. They have uncanny speed for their age & I would back this pair in a 50 yd dash with any 2 players on any team in the 60 divisionEd perry is 65.I know of no 65 yr old that can run as fast and hard as him. They also have 4 other players that can really scoot too.And Einstein couldnt" carry the water to keep their 2 pitchers cool". |
