Posted | Discussion |
May 16 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | I just got a new grey Ultra. I could not believe the disclaimer on it. It says "WARNING:This high performance bat is capable of producing batted ball speeds that present a risk of serious injury OR DEATH to players, coaches, and spectators." We have now come to the point that Miken feels they have to have that warning on these bats. Does that shift the blame to the hitter if something happens on a batted ball? Does that attempt to shift the culpability to the SSUSA for allowing these bats in competition? I'm speechless. |
May 16 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | More like sharing the 'blame' game for any serious injury... After all, manufacturers do not have to produce them, the assns do not have to allow them, and the players do not have to buy them or use them. Smoke and mirrors. But is is good, that they finally put it in writing. I believe they are not the only ones to have or have had such 'disclaimers'. |
May 16 Stretch14 Men's 50 202 posts | I just got a Miken Super Freak and it says the same thing. |
May 16 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | To save us from becoming pawns and victims of self centered litigations these warning labels are popping up everywhere in society. SOP in 2010 America. When was playing baseball, basketball, football, softball, driving a car, breathing the air or crossing a street not dangerous since any time we've been alive? Answer. Never. Common sense, character and confidence in our game and one another will get us through these and other difficult times together. |
May 16 jolly52 Men's 60 53 posts | When you have to put a Warning label on a cup of coffee explaining that it is hot and could cause injury because some lame idiot spilled it on themselfs driving away from a fast food place and sued and won a settlement... There will be more and more of this warnings next it will be the balls than gloves,shoes,hats...... |
May 17 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | cups.......lol |
May 17 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | mmmm to me the common sense here would be to get back to a game we can play and not just watch.with this current hot bat/ball combo that is all we get to do(watch it)see the recent vegas post"our necks were sore in watching all the balls fly out",what fun is there in that.we joined our teams to play the game(in all phases) not watch it.screens do nothing but create a nuisance in the middle of the field, and take away a part of the game we came to play.the people advocating the screen also don't want it to be a penalty to hit it,why, they want do overs.if ya want to use them make it an out hitting that stupid screen. 52-275 balls will allow us to play the game and not just watch it and not have to use screens. |
May 17 E4/E6 Men's 70 873 posts | Joe those are some pretty good examples of Danger. However if we look at the level of danger with any of those stated, we will see everyone is now far more dangerous then in our youth. Players are bigger and stronger. Cars are way faster and far more flimsy and there are 20+ times more of them. Our air is actually better now but because of the increase in cars it has leveled out, still deadly. We know about our bats and balls. Warnings are what they are, they tell us to beware, to use caution because something may cause us injury. I cannot and will not have confidence in someone or something when my common sense tells me it can hurt me. And in my opinion our present Bat/Ball standard is something that has the potential of hurting me. Am I still going to play? Of course I am, will I continue to lobby for a more responcible game, you bet I will. And yes Webbie there is a warning with our cup. =) |
May 17 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | Miken is starting this warning movement. If einstein is right, and I believe he is, there are other bats out there by other makers which are just as powerful (and just as dangerous). Before the year is out, I expect to see similar warnings by other makers. This will put real pressure on SSUSA, Las Vegas, etc. to justify why they allow such potentially lethal bats to be used. |
May 17 salio2k Men's 60 547 posts | You guys sure are gullible. It's just a marketing ploy. "If it's that hot, I've got to have it". |
May 17 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | not me salio,i have all i need at this time. |
May 19 Enviro-Vac Men's 65 489 posts | The warning label is not exclusive to senior bats. I purchased a couple ASA bats recently with the warning label on them. |
May 19 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | The new miken Freak DST which is ASA, also has it. |
May 26 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | Not gullible-just a bit unbelieving that we have gotten to this point. The closed thread on bats was illuminating. There were a lot of guys I haven't seen on here and that was refreshing. It was easy to notice that most of the new guys were for a slower game.Oh, well-on to Reno and I look forward to meeting a lot of you personally. Look for me on the 55AAA Desperados. |
May 26 tattooball 774 posts | The last time I saw warnings like this on bats was the titainium bats of 94. Look what happened to them. |
May 26 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | These warnings are and have been popping up everywhere because people/corporations are looking to sue just about anyone for cash for some time now and it's getting worse all the time. They are only meaningful as "legal" matters and where money rules and have overpowered reason and common sense throughout our society. Our economy is floundering, heading for the crapper and folks lawyers help scare up, intimidate and manipulate all of us for perhaps, one last pay day before it all goes South. There should be a warning before breathing the air, drinking the water, driving across town and crossing the street because all these activities are more life threatening and dangerous and will continue to be more so than 10 or 20 or 30 years ago. We've got a couple of problems with Senior Ball. Bat cheating, safer AND funner, increasing participation/revenue... and we should all come together, HONESTLY, with our true concerns on the table and look to see what we can and should be done. TD's, Associations, Manufacturers and players, all need be involved to reach the best outcome for all, the only real possibility to keep our game viable, satisfying, alive and prosperous going forward. Let cooler heads, prevail. |
