Stupid Rules Who Thought of This
Whoever thought of this rule Vegas Players can't play with California Teams must be very scared of Vegas Players Hey I know we get to play all year long & have better attitudes toward the game, may I also add more knowledge & possible better players??? Maybe whoever thought of this DUMB rule has something aganist Vegas took a bad beat on the Tables maybe don't take it out on the Vegas Softball Players

This rule only applies in SSUSA. Other associations still allow Vegas guys to play with CA-based teams. I would suggest you talk to my friend Hank Cluess and get his perspective of this rule and how it has affected him.

Softballnut if VEGAS players are so much better as you say they are why would you want to lower yourself to play with California teams?

Hey Larry How are you. Just turned on my computer and now my blood is boiling again. Here you have a Vegas team with 5 I say 5 California guys on it and yet not one of us can play in California. Therefore myself and it appears a few others are shut out from playing SENIOR SOFTBALL in SSUSA. The team I play for is in California as there is no place for me to play in Vegas as there are no 65 maj+ teams. There are some other Vegas guys that just want to play but can't hook up with a team in Vegas because we just don't have enough players to form more teams. Thus we are asking to play somewhere and the California teams are asking. It still amazes me how Vegas can have 9 guys from Cali on each team yet not one of us can play there. Does SSUSA care about a handful of players that are sort of stranded and just need some assistance getting on a team. We are not talking Major League players getting paid just 50-70 year old guys trying to enjoy each and every day we can get on the softball field. Is there a chance you can revisit this rule and help us all out. You had the winter worlds with close to 200 teams in Vegas and we could not play. You had Hemet which I had played in for 14-15 years or so could not play. You have Mesquite again could not play. Reno is coming up and we all would surly like to play with someone. I just don't think it is right to have to wait till i'm 75 to be able to play Maj+ again with my Cali team. Sorry guys for ranting but you have no idea what I have gone through.

Take care

Hank, I certainly hope that wiser heads will prevail and you guys can play with your CA buddies in SSUSA. Are you playing with Omen in the other associations, and, if so, where are you guys playing Nationals this year?

You mentioned Hemet. 75% of our tournaments are in Hemet. If your referring to the Southern California Senior Softball Association or SCSSA we do not recognize this rule. If you are alive and vertical with a glove and want to play there are no such restriction with us. As I have said more than once "Its all about the fun" We have no idea how much time we have left to play this game so we want everyone to play and have fun doing it. So the next time you have a chance to play in Hemet don't sit and mope get on a team and come join us.

Larry, Yes I am playing with OMEN in all the other organizations. Fortunately they have the 2 players outside the region rule. We plan on playing Vegas,SPA in Sparks(Labor Day weekend), World Series Palm Springs,Huntsmen games and Vegas winter Worlds. How about your 65 team?

Marv19 We had the pleasure of playing in Hemet back in Feb in the 60's. We like playing there and plan on playing there as often as we can. As you said we believe totally in your "alive and vertical with a glove" idea and it should be that way for all organizations at this point of our lives. Please don't forget to help support the Las Vegas Senior Softball organization. We run two tourneys a year. Spring and The World tourney in the fall.

mmmm, let me ask this,if you go to a store to but something, pay your money, and then find out they have none available, you get you money returned right, how about SSUSA refunding the player sign up fee for those that can't be on a team.also you wouldn't take a different size or color of said item(being made to play a lower age div,65's playing 60 or even 55),you want what you ordered right.
they take our money then hold us hostage,by not letting us play.

sjuhoops: We will certainly do that. We have an 11 tournament schedule for So. Cal.in 2011. As you may or may not know venues are hard to get and once you secure a date you have to use it or it will go to someone else. Some of these Fields are very hard to get and require deposits along with a 1 year in advance of the date. It is our thought that if there were more local tournaments available for seniors it would encourage more teams to form. However getting that philosophy out is more difficult than one could imagine. We know we have the population here so time will tell if it will happen. I'm working on a few Women only tournaments as we speak. Once again its getting the word out. So yes we will support you when ever we can. Never forget... "Its all about the fun" Good Luck

Hank, what would keep Omen from registering as a Las Vegas team, a different person listed as manager?

Looks like thet're running the CA/NV border like the govt. does the MEX/USA border, ONE WAY! Hope you get this resolved so you may partisipate in SSUSA once again.

curveball,
You finally came up with what should have been obvious and is currently going on.
Only problem is the managerial feature of on line changes & submission here.

Curveball Actually it is not the managers location but the state with the majority of players. I wish we had enough 65 players here but we just don't. I did go to mesquite this week and WATCH again as our 65 team who were rerated Maj* broke up and are now Major. They cannot add any more Maj* guys. We watched 2 60 Major vegas teams play. One team had 5 or 6 California players from another Maj* rated team that broke up and the other 60 Maj team had 5 or 6 Utah guys. All within the rules. No problem. Problem being there are some of us who cannot play in our own backyard. If California was opened back up we would all have a place to play. I can play 55 major a little much for a 66 year old but others here in Vegas and other states have no option. Should we not all have a place to play. Simple solution 2 out of region like the other big established organizations use. SPA LVSSA, WORLD SERIES. Not sure on the Nor-Cal and So-Cal rules. Sorry for my ramblings

Hank, I share your concern about having to play against guys much younger than you. I played 60 M last year as a 64-year old and also was able to play 50 AAA. But, I played 1B and did not have to run around in the outfield. Makes a tremeendous difference. What I've already experienced with our new 65 M+ team this year in our first tournament, we were stuck playing 50 year olds! We played a 50 AAA team twice. We beat them by 2 runs and lost by 1. We also played a 50 Major team twice and got crushed twice. This was not a major association tournament. Now, however, we are playing in our first SPA tourney next weekend in Georgetown. When I first learned our schedule, we were slated to play in the 50s(!) with THREE major teams and 2 AAA teams! I got on the phone and got us moved to the 60s where we belong since there are no 65s to play. I've already voiced my opinion that if this type of thing continues to happen locally, I'm not wasting my time/money to spot 15 years to younger guys and get killed for my trouble. I went through that with our 60 M+ team a few years ago playing 50 M+ teams on occasion. No Mas!

Larry, Playing 50 year olds is just not right and could be a little dangerous. We are fortunate we can still play some but that is just too much of an age difference. I understand it is hard to find 65 Maj+ teams to play so we also play the 60's and thats ok. I too will not play the field when I play with the 55 team. Safety first. I saw the TOC had all of ONE 65Maj+team. Being able and wanting to play 65 Maj+ and they won't allow it because they close off 2 states yet their player can all go over their state line and play. Seems a little weird. Can't speak for the Fla area but here in Vegas there are a handful of guys that want to play, with their only option being in Cali and they will not let this small group of players do this. As a director and owner of a huge organization would you not try to accommodate each and every player. Good luck next weekend in Georgetown.

Dennis I sent off an inquiry today to a Mr Brown. The web site says only 2 softball fields and one baseball field. Most likely the baseball field has a permanent mound. Not going to have much of a tournament on 2 fields. Doesn't hurt to look and ask though. Thanks for the tip.

Dennis, I haven't communicated with Mr Brown. He is listed on the City web site as the Recreation Director. I sent him an email which as of now is not returned. This is what is on their web site:

Whitmore Ball Fields
The Whitmore Recreation Area is located 10 miles south of Mammoth, just off US Hwy 395 on the Benton Crossing Road. Facilities include a regulation baseball diamond, two softball fields (one lighted), and restrooms. Whitmore is open until November 1 (weather permitting).

If you have a different location and a name send it to me and I'll email that person. Thanks again for the tip. wwm1@adelphia.net
