NORTHEAST CHAMPIONSHIPS SYRACUSE, NY
Managers,
The Northeast Championships TOC qualifier is still scheduled to happen July 7th-12th in Syracuse, NY. The entry deadline is June 23rd and we already have about 30 teams signed up to participate. Last year we had a record 54 teams in the whole tourney and we might surpass that turnout this year so if you are planning on attending make sure you get your entry fee in before the deadline. July 7th-9th (Tues-Thurs) is for 65 years old and higher to play. July 10th-12th (Fri-Sun) is for the 40-60 age groups. There is only one other TOC qualifier on the East Coast which is the Eastern Nationals in Loudoun County, Va.
Thanks,
Chuck Sharkey

Pizzaboy i think the complex they use only has like 4 or 5 fields so they cant let to many teams in cuz of firld capacity.

Stick1 - believe he is referring to actual TOC in Fla, that there won't be as many teams due to the number of TOC Qualifiers that have been cancelled due to Covid19.

And as far as Syracuse, there are 5 fields at the main complex (Hopkins Rd Park) but there is a 2nd complex with 3 fields they will be using if needed, only issue is not many fields with lights so there is a limit for sure.

Shark - There is one more TOC event in Fla that was rescheduled (Spring Nationals in Lakeland in Aug). Still that is only 3 on the East Coast, not many for sure.

Tying up a couple of loose ends here-

There are a total of 8 diamonds used for the Northeast Championships in Syracuse, NY. There are five fields at Hopkins Road and three additional fields at The Sports Yard (previously named Santarro Park) about 10 minutes to the north. We've used them for the past few seasons and it's worked out fine.

Fields for the TOC- SSUSA uses 5 fields at Auburndale, 4 at Winter Haven, 4 at Carter Road, 4 at Walker Road and had overflow capability at 2 additional parks in Lakeland. In terms of team projections for the 2021 TOC.... Many of the TOC qualifiers around the country have been postponed but will be played in July, August and September. As parks open up, teams will take the field and earn their berths. SSUSA is working behind the scenes to make the best of an unexpected and awful situation. Some other things may pop up. Hang in there.

Hey Shark, that’s great we’re looking forward to finally playing, the New Jersey Hitmen are already signed up. I understand we’re the only 65M team so far, so I hope some other 65M teams get signed up and let’s have a good tournament to finally get this season started. Be good to see everyone in Syracuse! Be well!

last I heard, we have 40 teams now entered as of June10th for Syracuse...in case anyone is concerned, we are moving to Phase 3 of opening up June12th and Phase 4 (softball and team sports) July 1st....we are not NYC, we are CENTRAL NY state....NYC is 4-5 hours away so any team that is concerned about Covid and infection rates, Syracuse is deemed extremely safe, thus the quicker opening of the area....fields are in great shape and it would be good to start the tourney season in the northeast with a big turnout....see you in a few weeks

There are currently more than 40 teams entered, with just under two weeks left in the entry window, for the Northeast Championships 2020 ...

I have been in contact with my players from MA, they are being told that when they come to New York for the NE Championship they have to go into a 14 day quarantine once they return back home due to the COVID-19. I have not heard of any guidance along these lines. I understood the possibility of going into NYC that you may possibly need to do this but upstate NY is in a different category than what NYC is listed as. WE are going to be in Phase 4 once the tournament starts and there has not been any guidance stating that you need to go into quarantine if people from other states come to upstate New York. Has any other teams from other states heard about this. I just hope this doesn't influence teams not to come to Syracuse to play in their first Senior Softball Tournament for the 2020 year.

bkb555 - You say Syracuse is safe, however, what about the teams that may be coming from the areas, NJ, CT, lower N.Y. which showed very high numbers of Covid-19. They could possibly expose Syracuse to an increase of Covid-19 cases making Syracuse now vulnerable. Hopefully, it does not happen but it could.

If you are sick, or have been around someone who is sick, you should stay home...but you also have a month to get better...let's play ball as safely as we can and be smart and take whatever precautions are needed to protect everybody

In anticipation of attending this tourney next month, will masks/gaiters be available for purchase at the fields?

Players interested in purchasing masks/gaiters for the Northeast Championships can find them for sale on a link on the home page of this site. Most are available within a 2 day delivery.

Also with one week left before the entry deadline for the tourney, there are over 50 teams signed up to participate in this TOC qualifier. It will be the first senior tourney to be played in the Northeast so don't miss out on this event. Hope to see you there.
Thanks,
Chuck Sharkey

If SSUSA is requiring these masks then they should be providing them

DEJ13-Not sure if I agree with you. As much as the whole mask thing I consider folly, if they are requiring it, well bats and gloves are required to play and we do provide our own. BUT at 10 bucks a crack for a logo mask I can't help but feel there is some gouging going on here. Cotton masks at best filter at 69%. Thin ones, I don't know about the effectiveness. I wonder if SSUSA isn't legally stepping in it a little by putting their logo on these or will they come with an effectiveness disclaimer?

With the Canada & U.S. border still closed it looks like this will be the first year in over 10 that we will not be able to participate.

Shark, I placed my order this morning since I never got an answer whether they would be available in Syracuse.
2 day delivery? Fake news in my case as my confirmation said 'up to 12 business days' with a delivery date of July 2nd. Oh well, at least I'll have it in time for the tourney.

I got a mask with replaceable filters at smash it sports online for 10 dollars for mask and 20 dollars for 25 filters....they are sporty looking, comfortable and you can use them anywhere else too....but like Shark said, this is the 1st Northeast tourney, so let's fill it up....it's a good venue and we will be on the field again!!!
