Sal Silva Passed Away 1/28/2013
Sal Silva from So. California (D & K, NCI and Burbank/Glendale softball leagues , ...) one of our fellow senior softball players passed away last night from Lou Gehrig's disease.

Sal was a regular participant in senior tournaments and Glendale/Burbank softball leagues. Sal always had a smile and encouraging words for anyone he encountered. He was also a regular contributor to this message board and an expert on the latest softball bats and gear.

I will personally miss his friendly smile, great personality and my conversations with him. He left us way to early, but I feel sure he will be an all star on the big Guys team above.

As of this posting funeral arrangements are pending.

Please include Sal's family in your prayers.

It was a blessing to have known Sal as a person. I played many tournaments with him and against him. He will be missed by all that have had the pleasure of meeting him. God bless Sal and his family.

I met Sal years ago in so cal playing against him. We kept in tough over the years via email even though playing against or with him never happened again. Knew about the disease but it was never talked about much over the years.
RIP Sal.

I'm very sorry to hear about Sal. I enjoyed playing with and against him for many years. Sal was the kind of guy that played the game hard but always had fun doing it. You would have a hard time finding him without a big smile on his face. My condolences to his family.

Phil, if you hear of any plans for services for Sal please post them on here. Thanks.

My thoughts and prayers to his family and the D&K Family. Sal was one heck of a hitter and I will miss him rolling around the Burbank league on Sunday mornings in his chair. He loved this game of softball.

Hi everyone,

I'm Tammy, Sal Silva's daughter. My brother found this message board under Dad's "Favorites". Thanks Phillip for posting the news about Dad. Thanks everyone for all your thoughts, prayers, and memories of Dad. We are still planning a memorial, and I'll post the details here. About a week before Dad died, this article came out about ALS, and features Dad. Please take a read....there are some pix of Dad at bat......

Thanks,
Tammy Silva

I found out just this last Sunday that Sal had passed away. We became friends thru different tournaments, Sunday mornings in Burbank, and then on Tues and Thurs BP in Burbank. He was an amazing ball player that could do it all. When the ALS hit him, he would still come out and hit even if it was not up to his standards. Watching him was unbelievable. I will miss him. By the way Tammy, that was a great article on your dad.
