Discussion: White Centenarian Short barrel

Now that the White Centenarian has been out for awhile, what are the latest opinions, comparisons and reviews? My main concern is the shortened barrel from 13" to 10" reducing the "sweet" spot. I have been told that there's also an issue with paint chipping. Will umpires, after seeing the chipping, not allow the bat to be used during the game? Has the issue been addressed and resolved by Combat?

It all depends on where you purchased your bat…I have both versions the USA version and the Canadian version, IMO the Canadian version has more pop and doesn’t have the paint chipping issues that USA version has. However the Canadian version has a smaller knob and may feel a little different to some! Both seem to be very durable. IMO this is the best Combat on the market since the Yellow & White came out a few years ago. If you’re a pretty good hitter and know how to hit, you won’t notice the 3” different in the barrel from 13 to 10.

Thanks rightj1 for your input. Where can I find the Canadian version with the small knob? I also have the MM Combat senior gear 2 bat. It's not broke in yet but I'm very pleased with the performance so far. Have you hit with that bat and what's your opinion and comparison to the white centenarian?

Ur Welcome Cheezhed,

Some guys really like the Blue MM! Why?
I have no idea!
I purchased 2 of them and after swinging the Yellow MM for 2 seasons, the blue MM was a step back for Combat. They since have made it better bye producing the Black & White centerian both are very durable with pop.
I have since located a brand new Yellow MM that I will get broken in and NEVER EVER USE in BP, IMO the Combat Yellow MM is bye far the BEST Senior Bat there has been if you're looking for durablity, distance and a nice feel swing!

Two questions. How did you ever find a new Yellow MM. I had one, loved it, but it had an endcap issue. Even with the end cap problem a fellow player at one of the FHC tournaments offered to buy it for $175 regardless of the glued endcap...Sold! Second question. Where can I find the Canadian version of the white centenarian?

If an endcap is reglued as set forth on other threads in this website, it should be as good as new.

Let me jump in here and explain something to who ever wants to listen. You don't have to but I think I know a little bit about what I am talking about. First there is no difference in the performance of the White Centenarian whether you think it is from the USA or Canada. I did not know that Combat had 2 different plants to build bats. Unless I am being lied to the bats are made by the same developer Steven Sutherland who is the president at Combat in Ottawa, Ontario. The bats are made in the same factory and the only difference is the big knob versus the little knob. Yes Anaconda sells the big knob. Somebody else sells the little knob. The white bat is a great bat no matter which knob you prefer. All of the bats have chipped from the paint no matter where you bought them. I even had a friend of mine tell me that a guy in the parking at at one of the senior tournaments that the only bats that were chipping were the ones that were sold with the big knob. Wow, why would someone say that about a product that they are selling that has the same issues. That is what kills me. I have seen post from different players with both size knobs that say their bat has had some bad chipping. I have had one customer send his bat back because of the issue with an umpire. The bat was replaced and he now has 350 cuts on the bat with no chipping. Have they fixed the issue with the paint. I hope so. Just thought you might want to know.....

Well Mike, Joe Ranaldi's second bat has zero paint issues.. the one that chipped early on he's still using.. Looks like they fixed the paint problem and Joe Really likes his bat.. We were playing on 320 fences this weekend and he parked one about 350plus.. Gives me hope for the next 15 years.. joe is 65

Mike,
I,m not saying you’re wrong as far as the factory is concern, however if both bats are made in Canada as you say, then why is it that only the big knob version is having the paint issues? I have 3 White Centenarian 2 small knobs and of course the Big knob version has the chipping issue, others have also stated the same! It’s a very good bat much better then the last bat we last talked about! You know that Blue MM that you said was the exact same bat as the Yellow MM and we both know how that turned out! Their not even close to being the same! Ok I’m done picking on you…lol
Cheez, I found a guy that had a brand new yellow Combat and he liked the Milken over the Yellow MM so, I traded my Brand new Milken which I don’t like for his brand new in the wrapper Yellow MM, what a steal, I’m laughing all the way to the bank!!! It was a win win for both of us!

Nevermind, I guess I need to get my facts straight. I apologize, Combat does have 2 plants. I was not aware of that. One in Canada that has been doing the smaller knobs. And they have not had any issues with the bat chipping. and one in Washington. I lost my mind for a sceond. The one in Washington is where all of the chipping is coming from. They do the big knob there in Kent at the Combat factory...

PS. You can pick on me. I can handle it.

rightrj1,All three of my bats have the small knob. The first had the paint chipping and was replaced. They all perform well and I continue to use the oldest bat that is chipped up and it passed for play in Dalton. The newer bats have a darker blue paint[?]but no chipping.

Mike thank you for correction…..lol
It’s nice to know a Big guy like yourself has tough skin….Most big men are OHHHHH so sensitive!!
So Cheezhed, looks like you can’t go wrong with the small or big knob White Combat…I would recommend you get you one, nice looking, durable and has pop. The break-in period was short also, about 60swings!
Tinman, good for you, you’re the 1st person I’ve heard of with paint chipping issue on the small knob, I’ve only heard of the large knob with the issue!

I got one with the big knob several months ago,,, no paint problems except for some webbing on the barrel, it hits with the best of the senior bats and have more hits on it than I had with my last 3 mikens,,,don t notice the shorter barrel after the first couple of swings and the ball comes off it hard,,, it will stay my gamer..

Well I have one with the small knob that has the paint issue. I bought it from Kevin earlier this year. At the time he said that the smaller knobs bats were all gone and couldn't / didn't replace it. Still have the damn thing and not being allowed to use it.

Tri18, I really can't believe that you have not had any issues. None what so ever. I guess I better buy all of my bats off of you. So are you trying to tell me there is a 3rd Combat plant. Ha Ha! The question is which factory is yours being shipped out of?

Agree with rightjr1. Bought my (Canadian) White C from Tri18 in March and bought my Blue MM in Feb. Live up north so my BP didn't start until mid-May. Have now played 3 tournaments and I can say that the White C is HOT! And NO chipping. The Blue MM has not touched the performance of the White. I have the same number of swings on both. Had the Yellow MM and the Blue is not even close to performance. The two bats are NOT alike. Also had end-cap problems with the Yellow until I cracked the end. True believer in Combat. Still swinging my Grey Combat since '07 and still hits a ton, my go to bat. A true "Combatant".

Bags, it just wasn't me.. the Blue one was disappointing to say the least.. I never got it to a game.. it broke in less then a 100 bp swings! I have swung Joe Ranaldi's white Combat and it's a great bat.. I need the 13 inch barrel with my limited skills. ;)

I purchased one of the white Centenarians from Kevin this February. It had the small knob and came from Canada. There were several large chips in the first 20 hits. Keven sent me another and it broke last month with about 600 hits on it and with no chips. I have a new one in the box and can't wait to break it in. It's been my experience that this bat takes about 100 hits to break in and performs very well. I consider getting 600 hits from a senior bat good durability. Kudos to Combat.

I have purchased 4 of them. They were way hotter out of the wrapper than than either the yellow or gray combats of the past. They were sick. Within 20 swings they were as hot as my red ultra. I was thinking that if they had the same durability as the gray or yellow combat I would give up my red ultra forever.

The first one broke around 60 swings. Had another one break about 75 swings. 3rd one broke under 100 swings. I still have the 4th one with around 50 swings on it...in my bag for games only. Another player on our team Bully broke his in under 100 swings as well. The bats are sick hot...but no durability.

Friend and I ordered 2 and each have atleast 600 hits and are both very hot. Both have a few paint chips, but no problems. We both have decided to order 2 more- - just alittle lighter because we both think they swing heavier. very happy with bats although for us it took awhile to break in.

my white centenarian cracked in St George this week after 800 hits. it took about 50 swings to break in and would match any senior bat after that. have to go bat shopping now for next year,,,,

My white centenarian was hot and durable but,the paint was chipping and I wasn't allowed to use at a few tournaments-SPA Dalton being one of them.Tatooball asked in this same thread that I send it back for a replacement which I did.Once he received bat his contact silent. I guess that his word has chips in it too.I'd settle just to have the original bat returned to me. Still waiting....

Anaconda is selling the 2013 white short barrel for $110. Is the 2013 model a good bat??
